Build Equinox is pleased to announce our healthy Indoor Air Quality Standard. This standard is simple, practical, and effective. Our standard eliminates hundreds of pages and a multitude of confusing tables needed for today’s inadequate standards.
We have made healthy air recommendations for several years, well before the pandemic. Our standards are human-centric, based on the pollutants humans generate. When human generated pollutants are controlled, pollutants from other sources are also controlled. Build Equinox defines a healthy indoor space as one that maintains Figure 1 conditions.
Our viewpoint is different from the viewpoint defining today’s building ventilation standards (ASHRAE 62.1 and 62.2). Build Equinox healthy IAQS focuses on humans rather than buildings. We ask, “What makes us healthy?”, in contrast to today’s building ventilation standards that asks, “What makes us sick?”.
Figure 2 shows the gap between healthy conditions and “the edge of sickness”. SBS (Sick Building Syndrome) occurs in buildings designed at the edge of sickness. Buildings designed at the edge of sickness efficiently transmit and multiply airborne diseases as Covid, influenza, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), and cold viruses continue to demonstrate.
The Build Equinox healthy IAQS accounts for actual human occupancy and occupant activities. Our healthy air quality standard exceeds those required by ASHRAE, so meeting our standard ensures you are satisfying ASHRAE 62.1 and 62.2 minimal ventilation.
One vigorously exercising person puts out as 10 times more CO2 as a sleeping person, and needs 10 times more fresh air during that time. Someone thinking, such as a child doing schoolwork, produces more CO2 than they do in a non-thinking state-of-mind. Build Equinox healthy IAQS applies regardless of the mix of people, pets, and their activities.
Future newsletter articles will provide background to explain why we have chosen these levels for defining healthy indoor air. If every indoor space followed our guidelines, sick days are reduced, cognition capability is increased, sleep is improved, and air quality dissatisfaction is reduced. Each of these items is worth a lot of money. And, we will tell you how much money!
For those rightfully concerned about saving energy, Build Equinox’s healthy IAQS saves both people and energy better than today’s ventilation standards. How can we advocate more than doubling fresh air ventilation per person and reduce energy consumption?Follow our upcoming newsletter articles to learn how!
Build Equinox strives to create indoor air as healthy as the healthiest air Nature can provide. Build Equinox’s CERV2 smart ventilation system is the only ventilation system designed to automatically maintain excellent IAQ so you can breathe easy and enjoy life!
