Our friend, John Avenson, a tireless warrior working for a sustainable future, is the subject of a video production by Heart of a Building, hosted by Paul Kriescher. The video will appear on Rocky Mountain PBS at a date to be announced, but Paul has made the production available on YouTube for general viewing.
John built his state-of-the-art solar house in 1981 from plans he obtained from SERI (Solar Energy Research Institute), predecessor to NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory). Over the past few years, John completely renovated his home. His house exceeds today’s most stringent energy performance standards.
Paul interviews several folks involved in each step of the home’s renovation: air sealing, insulation, windows, heat pump water heating, heat pump space heating, solar PV array with battery backup, smart home monitoring, and CERV air quality management system to ensure he is keeping his home healthy (you can view Ty’s interview with Paul beginning at 5 minutes and 20 seconds).
Experienced architects and building professionals will find the video to be an excellent discussion piece for educating your clients on essential steps for creating a healthy, comfortable and energy efficient home.
Thank you, Paul for documenting John’s project, and providing inspiration for those who want to transform their homes!
