May 12, 2010: More Siding and Drywall

East side of the house has been sided and work is continuing on the back side. It’s been raining off and on, so if there is enough dry weather most of the siding should be installed by the end of this week.

On the inside they have finished hanging the drywall and have moved onto taping and compounding. This should be completed by the end of this week.

The bathrooms have a special green drywall for use where showers and bathtubs are located.

We’ve also been working on finishing the ducting for the house. Included in this work is an insulated air filter box, which filters fresh air into the house for ventilation. As you can see we are using a cooler for the insulated box. There are two filters; one is to catch larger particles and the second is a HEPA filter for dust, pollen, etc; another reason that the air quality is so much better in super-insulated homes. Virtually all of the air entering the house is filtered for pollutants. In conventional homes this does not happen as most air enters the house through cracks.
