Ameren has installed power to the house bringing us closer to having the solar operational.
They put in a bi-directional meter, which gives us credit for any excess energy that is produced. This is important for Equinox to be net zero as the house will produce excess power during the summer, but require more in the winter. Connecting to the grid allows the house to give and take as needed, treating it as battery storage in a sense.
To connect the solar we need to wire the system to the ground rods and install the breaker switches. Should have that done this afternoon. Next week is the goal to have solar up and running. We will have our solar installation expert Tom Debates down to verify things are connected properly before flipping the switch. We blow up enough stuff at our lab, so hopefully we can avoid any fireworks upon activation.
Here is a new article on windows. It goes through the costs and energy impact of windows. It is a very mushy area as there are many variables and equally as many answers, but I think it does a good job of breaking things down to show how a well informed decision can be made about putting windows in a zero energy house.
