Apr 5, 2010: Roof Continued

It’s been so windy that getting the roof on has been a challenge despite the warm and sunny weather. Today the South roof was finished and about a quarter of the North.

If the rain can hold off tonight and tomorrow is calm I would expect the major roof surfaces to be finished. Fascia and trim will remain until the siding begins. This week the siding will be ordered.

Above are pictures of the roof over the weekend from work on Friday. Below are after the work earlier today with the South portion complete. The first four are zooming in from across the pond.

This is the beginning of work on the North facing roof.

On Friday we also finally recycled the HDPE plastic wrap that covered the house SIP panels for shipping. This was the only waste left from the major house construction, a benefit of building with SIPs. This polyethylene is fairly high grade and fetches ~$0.20/lb on today’s market. We took two truckloads to our friend Matt Snyder’s commercial recycling business, Community Resource Inc. Two pickup truck loads of plastic with a weight of 240lb total were recycled.  Matt just bought a new baler, so we got to observe it in operation.
