Jun 22, 2010: Tiling, Concrete Floor

Tiling has started in the full guest bath as well. It is a gray large tile and two borders of 1″ x 2″ small glass tiles of shades of blueish gray.

The concrete floor is being finished. The first step was grinding the surface with the floor grinder shown below. It smooths the floor and leaves it semi polished, but not glossy. You can see a closeup of the floor after grinding. It is a little dusty and will require some mopping before a sealer of linseed oil is applied. We are looking at making a natural floor coating using beeswax and linseed oil. The beeswax will come from bees that we had at our lab in previous years and still have some wax remaining. The floor will have a natural dark concrete color for now and if at some point different flooring is desired it can fairly easily be added.

We are trying different lighting patterns between spot and diffuse LED bulbs. They light up the living space nicely from above. After finishing the tiling, doors and trim will start to be installed.
